What Is SEO? Explained Like You're Not A Nerd

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. But that doesn't help, does it?

In Plain English

SEO is everything you do to make Google show your business when people search for what you offer.

That's it. That's the whole thing.

Why It Matters

When someone in Hamilton searches "best cafe near me," Google decides which businesses to show. SEO is how you tell Google: "Hey, I'm a cafe, I'm in Hamilton, and I'm worth showing."

If you don't do any SEO, Google has to guess. And Google's guesses aren't always in your favour.

The Three Types of SEO

1. On-Page SEO

What's on your website. Your page titles, descriptions, headings, and content. This is the easiest to control.

2. Local SEO

Your Google Business Profile, your address consistency across the web, your reviews. Critical for businesses that serve a local area.

3. Technical SEO

How fast your site loads, whether it works on mobile, whether Google can read it properly. You usually need someone technical for this.
