7 Google Business Mistakes That Keep You Invisible
I audit businesses every week with my SEO tool. Here are the Google Business mistakes I see over and over.
1. Wrong Business Category
Google uses your category to decide when to show you. If you're a cafe but your category says "restaurant," you won't show up when someone searches "cafe near me."
2. No Photos
Listings with photos get 42% more direction requests. Yet most businesses have zero. Upload at least 10: your storefront, your work, your team, your products.
3. Outdated Hours
Nothing kills trust faster than driving to a business that's closed when Google said it's open. Update your hours every time they change. Including holidays.
4. No Description
You get 750 characters to tell Google what you do. Use them. Include your location, your main services, and what makes you different.
5. Ignoring Reviews
Not responding to reviews — especially negative ones — tells everyone you don't care. Always respond within 48 hours.
6. Wrong Address Format
If your address is "123 Main St" on Google and "123 Main Street" on your website, search engines get confused. Pick one format and stick to it everywhere.
7. No Posts
Google Business has a posting feature that most businesses ignore. A quick post every week shows Google you're active and gives customers fresh info.
